The MUSKETIER becomes the EventLab
We’d actually had a shop in mind. For the EventLab organised by the #studierintrier initiative, we wanted to use a vacant space in Trier city centre. The initiative is backed by the City of Trier, Trier Tourism and Marketing, the University, the University of Applied Sciences and the Studentenwerk. The idea was to showcase, right in the heart of the city, the research being carried out in Trier and what it’s like to study here. However, we couldn’t find a suitable space during the project period. So we turned the tables. If people won’t come to us, we’ll simply go to them.
That’s how we ended up with the ‘Radkutsche GmbH’. As an agency, we designed and managed the EventLab, and the cargo bike quickly became its centrepiece. The large box was adorned with the EventLab branding, topped with a parasol, and surrounded by deckchairs and bar tables. The result was a small stand right in the heart of the pedestrian zone.

From 22 May to 5 July 2026, the EventLab was set up for 19 days at the Hauptmarkt and on Portavorplatz, open from 11 am to 6 pm each day. The university’s various departments took turns manning the stand. Sometimes the focus was on robotics, sometimes on VR gait analysis, and sometimes on hearing experiments. The Studentenwerk offered city tours that started right at the bike and served fair-trade coffee. The box provided space for information material and everything the stand team needed throughout the day. In the evenings, the bike was parked in an underground car park in the city centre.
What convinced us about the cargo bike: it stands out without being obtrusive and fits in well with Trier’s old town. As this was a funded project, it was also important to us that something lasting would remain at the end. Instead of paying rent for a shop premises, the initiative now has its own bike, which will remain in use even after the project has ended. Thanks to the interchangeable panels from Radkutsche GmbH, each partner gets its own side panels in its own design. So the bike is sometimes out and about representing the university, sometimes the Studierendenwerk, and sometimes the city.
One thing is certain for us: as a mobile meeting point in the city, we’d do it all again in a heartbeat.
