Sustainable logistics in action: how IKEA, La Poste and An Post are breaking new ground

More and more companies are turning to environmentally friendly logistics solutions for the last mile and impressively demonstrating how sustainability, innovation and customer service can go hand in hand.Three strong examples of this are IKEA, La Poste and An Post:

  • IKEA is testing green delivery concepts with electric transporters and cargo bikes in Vilnius, thereby contributing to clean inner-city logistics.
  • La Poste is combining inland waterway transport, solar energy and e-bikes to make Paris quieter, cleaner and more liveable.
  • An Post has achieved a complete switch to zero emissions in Dublin, demonstrating how visionary infrastructure can bring about real change.Whether it's electric mobility, multimodal delivery or urban pilot projects, these companies are pioneers of a new generation of logistics. Their commitment shows that sustainable solutions are already a reality and that the future is being actively shaped.

An Post: Zero emissions in Dublin

An Post is the first national postal service provider in the world to set an impressive benchmark: the complete switch to emission-free delivery in a European capital city. Since 2020, all parcel deliveries in Dublin have been made exclusively with electric vehicles a milestone for urban sustainability and green logistics.

A key component of this success is the partnership with Radkutsche and our powerful e-cargo bikes, which make a significant contribution to An Post's emission-free delivery concept. Over 200 Radkutsche vehicles are now in use throughout Ireland, enabling flexible, quiet and sustainable parcel delivery especially in densely populated, hard-to-reach neighbourhoods.

With a total investment of 7.5 million in e-mobility and the goal of expanding its electric fleet to over 900 vehicles, An Post is pursuing a clear strategy: to become the greenest postal service in Europe. This is not just about environmental goals, but also about a sustainable infrastructure that combines logistics, quality of life and climate ambitions.

The collaboration with Radkutsche shows how innovative vehicle technology and strategic environmental awareness can go hand in hand and how modern cargo bikes are playing a key role in the urban mobility transition.

IKEA: Green delivery – an example from Vilnius (Lithuania) and Delft (Netherlands)

IKEA is testing an innovative, environmentally friendly delivery concept in Vilnius: parcels are delivered directly to customers using electric vehicles and cargo bikes, with zero emissions. This pilot project aims to improve the CO balance and enhance the quality of life in the city. IKEA is thus demonstrating how sustainable logistics solutions can work in practice.

La Poste: Zero-emission delivery not only in Paris

La Poste is committed to a multimodal, green delivery strategy: a solar-powered inland waterway solution transports parcels along the Seine, which are then distributed in Paris by e-bikes. This initiative saves around 200,000 road kilometres per year and significantly reduces CO emissions. The aim is to offer low-emission deliveries in 350 European cities by 2025.

InzamelHelden: Sustainable waste disposal

InzamelHelden offers an environmentally friendly solution for waste disposal in urban areas. Instead of using large garbage trucks, they collect various types of waste such as paper, cardboard, packaging materials and organic waste directly from households, shops and offices using electric cargo bikes. This not only reduces CO emissions, but also noise pollution and traffic in city centres.

An example of the success of this concept is the city of Leiden, where InzamelHelden has introduced daily collection of separated waste in collaboration with local authorities and businesses. This initiative has removed visible rubbish bins from the cityscape and significantly improved recycling rates. The use of e-cargo bikes enables flexible and efficient collection, even in narrow streets and with small amounts of waste.

InzamelHelden demonstrates how innovative approaches and collaboration with the community can create a more sustainable and cleaner urban environment.
